What we publish
We publish plain-language guides to vehicle titles, registration and fees in the United States. Our aim is to give a reader the steps, documents, costs and deadlines for their state in one place, and to link to the official source for each fact.
Where facts come from
- Official sources first. State agency pages, statutes, regulations, fee schedules and official forms.
- Other government sources where a rule sits with another body, such as a state tax authority.
- Secondary sources only for background, never for a fee, deadline or legal requirement.
Every guide lists its sources at the bottom with the date we accessed them. If we cannot read an official source, we do not publish figures from it.
How a page is made
- We choose topics from what people search for and what we can support with official sources.
- We read the official sources and record the facts, with links.
- We draft the page. We use AI tools to help with research and drafting. We do not invent experience, quotes, reviews or statistics, and we do not present AI output as personal experience.
- We check the draft against the sources with automated checks for missing sources, duplicated text, and formatting problems, and a person reviews it.
- A person approves the page before it is published.
What the date on a page means
“Sources checked” shows the date we last compared the page with the sources listed on it. It is not a guarantee that nothing has changed since then.
Updates
We review pages when we learn that a rule or fee has changed and from time to time. We update the checked date only when we have compared the page with its sources again.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, email contact@plateandtitle.com with the page address and, if you can, a link to the official source that shows the correct figure. We check reports against the source and fix confirmed errors as soon as we can. We aim to reply within a week.
Independence and advertising
The site is supported by display advertising, which is labelled as advertising. Advertisers do not see or influence our content. We do not accept payment from agencies, dealers, insurers or title services to change what a page says. If we ever add affiliate links or sponsored content, we will mark them clearly and explain them on the page where they appear, in line with the US Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements.
Calculators and examples
Where we offer a calculator or worked example, we show the assumptions and the date of the data, and we test the arithmetic against the official figures.
